Club Basketball
Basketball has been my passion ever since my brother started when he was about 5 or 6. We both has played on a rec league for a long time with the Rebels. I wasn't as good as I thought I was, but I tried to play every second I could at home. I got a lot better. Later on, everyone started to join and I got bored. During those games, I had my best friends on that team. One of them is still playing with me now on a competitive league. The story of my basketball life is pretty crazy.
My brother had loved the game as much as I did, so I tried to play against him in the driveway. We just played pickup games and he of course beat me. Then, I found out that if you lose the game, you get better. You learn from your mistakes, and you don't always have to win to be a champion! I really thank my brother for helping me because without him, I would still trying to be good on the rec team. In rec, I played an Erie team. We were undefeated all year, until the last game in the championships. The Erie team was really good and so were we. We just weren't ready because we had been playing bad teams all year, so we hadn't actually been ready, we were surprised. It was a close game, but we won. I soon got a place on the eighth grade basketball team, (seventh at the time) when I was a 5th grader. I played with all the girls in my brothers classes. It was very fun, but I couldn't play anymore because the season ended.
In that season of basketball, it was hard for me to play. Not because I was bad, it was because I had medical conditions. I still played the game because I loved it with all my heart though. I had to go in the corner of a gym, get flipped over on a chair, and get an ice pack of my neck and head because of my medical conditions. I had a problem with my heart. Soon I got it all fixed with a heart surgery. All my rec years, my dad had been coaching. Later on in the summer, that Erie coach got a hold of my dad and asked him if we wanted to start a competitive team with his girls. 2 of us really wanted to and that was Sydnie and I. I am not bragging, but we were the best on the rec team, so we wanted to step ahead.
So, we started to practice, and we didn't really like it because we didn't know anyone. We were scared, and there were a bunch of high schoolers there and they were good. This wasn't what we were thinking. It was pretty fun and then I saw someone I knew from volleyball. Sooner or later, it was just the little girls practicing. (us) I realized it was so much fun and U liked it a lot more that rec. We started getting into games and playing. We all got really close until we had to leave the club because we weren't that good. It was at the end of the season. The same coach, asked us to join another club for a Centaurus team. We played with the girls that we played against. The three girls left the club with us so we could have good people on our team. So it was us five. We were realllllllyyyy close. And we still are! Well anyways, we started that team and played in tournaments on holidays, weekends, and even some week days. We won a ton of trophies and got a lot of t-shirts. I have about 5 or 6 shirts.
In January, I got a bad bone infection. I didn't know that I had one until I went to 11 different doctors. It had to be that I got hurt right before our big tournament at UNC. Once the doctors found out, I had to get a surgery. It was very hard. I still haven't played since November. I miss it a lot. But at least I am going to play in summer tournaments. I am SOOOO excited I cannot wait. I still have to wait until softball is over, but it will come soon enough.
